Calendar Equations Project

In this project, you will “show-off” your skills in working with various types of equations.   You will create a one-month calendar with an equation whose solution indicates each day’s date.   In other words, the number of days in the month you choose will determine the number of equations you will be creating.

YOU WILL NEED:

          ۰poster board

          ۰ruler

          ۰colored pencils/markers/crayons

۰mathematical skill in working with equations

YOUR CALENDAR MUST INCLUDE :( All equations must have at least one variable ex. 2t + 5 = 7)

          ۰ 5 two-step equations

۰ 3 equations using the distributive property

۰ 3 equations using combining like terms

۰ 3 equations with variables on both sides

          ۰ 5 two-step inequalities

The rest of the days for your month can be filled with anything including one-step equations and inequalities.

EXPECTATIONS:

I expect you to apply your ability to work with these types of equations and now CREATE your own. Don’t use outrageous numbers, but don’t rely on simple one-digit numbers either.   When creating your equations, you are trying to come up with solutions from 1 to 30 if your month has 30 days, and one to 31 if your month has 31 days.   The only exception is February.   Your calendar must be set up with the dates in the appropriate places for 2007.   On the calendar, in the square for a particular date, you will write your equation, the solution and the date. You will also need to turn in, attached to the back of your calendar, the step-by-step solution to each of your equations.   (The answers can be positive OR negative.)   I am also expecting to see some creative artwork to decorate your calendar.   Have fun with it!!

This project is worth a total of 50 points!!
